...Nick is the son of Dupi and John Cogan of Portola Valley and Michael Dillingham and Lisa Gianonne-Dillingham of San Francisco. He leaves behind his brothers, Michael, Joseph, Patrick and Charlie, and his sisters, Katherine, Christina, Elizabeth, Sophia, Lucia and little Eleven. He will also be missed by his best friend, Andrew Stephens and by Kelsey Enquist, the love of his life. A beautiful Memorial Service was held on June 30 at Stanford Memorial Church. The family has established the Nicholas Lee Dillingham Memorial Fund. All funds will be spent to improve the overall comfort level of young cancer patients at the Lucille Packard Hospital at Stanford. John F. Cogan is the Leonard and Shirley Ely Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution and a professor in the Public Policy Program at Stanford University, where he has had a continuing appointment since 1980. ...

Cogan has devoted a considerable part of his career to public service. He served as assistant secretary for policy in the US Department of Labor from 1981 to 1983. From 1983 to 1986, he served as associate director in the US Office of Management and Budget (OMB). His responsibilities included developing and reviewing all health, housing, education, and employment training programs and policies.

Cogan has served on numerous congressional, presidential, and California state advisory commissions. He served on the California State Commission on the 21st Century Economy and the California Public Employee Post-Employment Benefits Commission. He served on President George W. Bush's Commission to Strengthen Social Security, the US Bipartisan Commission on Health Care (the Pepper Commission), the Social Security Notch Commission, and the National Academy of Sciences' Panel on Poverty and Family Assistance.

John Cogan, 59, of Portola Valley, currently serves as senior fellow at the Hoover Institution and as a professor in the public policy program at Stanford University. In addition, he serves on the faculty advisory boards for the Stanford-in-Washington Program and the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. During the Reagan Administration, Cogan served as deputy and associate director in the U.S. Office of Management and Budget and as assistant secretary for policy for the U.S. Department of Labor. Cogan currently serves as a member of Governor Schwarzenegger’s Council of Economic Advisers. Cogan is a Republican and was appointed to the Commission by the Governor.
